The bartender Marius was so kind, fun and remembered everything. Marius from the restaurant was hilarious and helpful. The chef threw down some awesome meals and exposed us to local flavors. We cruised with Gate 1 (they charter other boats) this year on the Amadeus Symphony on the Rhone/Saone and had a wonderful experience.

Same here (including land tours), but I also find that GCT travelers tend to be active and inquisitive. The trips have varying physical requirements. Next year I'll be taking a small ship cruise (50 passenger) along the Adriatic with GCT for the first time and I'm looking forward to seeing what the mix is.
Just like some river cruises there were tours included in each city e.g. Vienna city tour and a side tour to Bratislava. Some of the optional tours were inexpensive and quite unique.

How do these 2 lines compare with say Avalon, AMA and say Scenic? They have some itineraries we like.Their boats seem old but I am not sure if and when they may have been updated. Our vacation trip on the Monarch Countess was fantastic. All our accommodations were excellent and the staff on the ship were all excellent. We loved all of the sightseeing excursions as well.The most noteworthy person was our Cruise Director, Bartel. I think he was the first one up in the morning, available to all of us at any time, and I am sure the last to get to sleep, if he had the chance.

The river was spectacular, the stops very historical and informative, the ricver boat was comfortable, food was outstanding, and activities on board fun. This is regarding the 12 days Danube river cruise Oct 29 to Nov 11 on the Monarch Queen instead of the Monarch Empress.Thank you so so much for such a great experience. This was our first trip with Gate 1 and it will definitely not be our last. We were impressed by the organization of the trip and how smoothly everything went. We also appreciate the affordability of traveling with Gate 1.The Gate 1 representative ,Mira, for the land portion in Prague was pleasant, easy to work with and very efficient. She gave us many helpful hints as we set out on own in the city.We can not say enough about our cruise director, Adrien. She worked tirelessly each and every day and was clearly visible at all hours.
